Supporting Spiritual Needs
For persons living with dementia, research has identified four elements of spirituality: religion, meaningful relationships, nature, and art. "Spiritual needs, as needs for spirituality, were defined as a sense of meaning and life purpose to find peace and well-being through connectedness. Their spiritual needs can be expressed through both verbal and nonverbal behavior, are related to past experiences with meaning, and prompt connectedness through meaningful relationships with others, nature, art, and the significant."*

Nature is a precious gift given to us by our Creator. Caregivers and family members--engage with your loved one! Share the calm, peaceful interaction, and relaxing pleasure as you page through these picture books related to nature. This is a therapy/activity that will capture their attention, engage their mind, and encourage them to relax. Here are some notes for caregivers & family members.
TIP Consider making your own DIY picture books with themes that will personally connect with your loved one, based on their personal interests, e.g., gardening, crafts, sewing, cooking, golf, other sports, etc.
